Montrose is where the Uncompahgre Valley’s farm ground runs up against the San Juans, with the Black Canyon of the Gunnison cut two thousand feet deep just east of town. It is the hub for everything south (Ridgway, Ouray, Telluride) and an hour’s drive from our yard up Highway 50. New subdivisions on the south side, shops along Townsend, hay barns and horse properties out toward Olathe. Montrose builds year-round. The Bobcat S64, S570 and T450 move the dirt and gravel, the E10, E20 and E35 mini excavators dig the utilities and footings, and the concrete mixers, vibrators and saws finish the slab. The Hotsy hot-water washers, up to the trailer-mounted 3500 PSI system, cut the valley’s dust and mud off a fleet in an afternoon, and the generators and compactors run the job when the power isn’t there yet.
