Cortez is the Four Corners’ working town: the gateway to Mesa Verde’s cliff dwellings, the trade center for the bean fields and hay ground of Montezuma County, with the Sleeping Ute lying on the western skyline. The trip is a half-day each way. Rates run by the day, week and 4-week month, so the machine stays as long as the job does.
A place with a half-acre of lawn and a woodpile ends up owning a zero-turn and a saw.
